Description: | Activins are dimeric growth and differentiation factorswhich belong to the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta)superfamily of structurally related signaling proteins. Activinssignal through a heteromeric complex of receptor serine kinaseswhich include at least two type I ( I and IB) and two type II (IIand IIB) receptors. These receptors are all transmembrane proteins, composed of a ligand-binding extracellular domain withcysteine-rich region, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmicdomain with predicted serine/threonine specificity. Type Ireceptors are essential for signaling; and type II receptors arerequired for binding ligands and for expression of type Ireceptors. Type I and II receptors form a stable complex afterligand binding, resulting in phosphorylation of type I receptors bytype II receptors. This gene encodes activin A type I receptorwhich signals a particular transcriptional response in concert withactivin type II receptors. Mutations in this gene are associatedwith fibrodysplasia ossificans progressive. |
Further Information: | This ACVR1 antibody is generated from rabbits immunized with a KLH conjugated synthetic peptide between 132-161 amino acids from the Central region of human ACVR1. |
