This protein is located in the matrix of the mitrochondriaand inhibits the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex by phosphorylatingone of its subunits, thereby contributing to the regulation ofglucose metabolism. Expression of this gene is regulated byglucocorticoids, retinoic acid and insulin.
