Description: | Amyloid precursor protein (APP) is the precursor molecule whose proteolysis generates amyloid beta (AB), a 39- to 42- amino acid peptide and this amyloid fibrillar form is the primary component of amyloid plaques found in the brains of Alzheimer's diseases patients. APP is an integral membrane protein that is phosphorylated in the cytoplasmic and extracellular domains. It has been reported that cell-surface APP plays a role in neurite extension of primary cultured hippocampal neurons. The large extracellular domain of APP is also reported to bind extracellular matrix molecules such as heparin, laminin, and collagen, which can mediate cell adhesion and neurite outgrowth. Abnormal regulation of the metabolism of APP may contribute to the deposition of plaques. |
Further Information: | The antibody has been tested by ELISA and Western blot analysis to assure specificity and reactivity. Since application varies, however, each investigation should be titrated by the reagent to obtain optimal results. Recommended dilution range for Western blot analysis is 1:1,000 ~ 2,000. Recommended starting dilution is 1:1,000. |
